The Royal Standard

Went to a concert in Sandringham and wanted an interesting place between London Stansted and Kings Lynn. The breakfast was sublime, many choices including classics and vegetarian (recommend pancakes and full English). The room décor was fantastic, blending traditional and modern. Restaurant area was very comfy and staff are amazing! Fantastic shower and modern bathroom in general, fluffy towels and toiletries. Fifteen minute walk from Ely train station to fore hill (up), another ten and you are at the heart of Ely and cathedral. Saturday market was a plus. From cathedral you can return to train station the other way (back hill) walking through a lovely park.

Me, my wife and her Aunt stayed a couple of week days at this lovely centre Pub in Ely. The room we had on the top floor was lovely with a super king-size bed which was very comfy. The Staff were excellent very friendly, attentive and very polite nothing was too much trouble. The owner Mike was again, very friendly and approachable. We had an evening meal and breakfast each morning with a very extensive choice instead of just a full English. The food was exceptional both at breakfast and evening meal. The pub itself had a real nice decor with a mix of old and new styles with again a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Behind the Pub is a huge public car park which is free to park but parking times do have to be observed as there is short stay and long stay parking but the pub staff will explain the full workings of it. The three of us had a lovely two night stay and both rooms were very comfortable. The present owner hasn't had the venue long and is still getting it up to the standard he requires. All in all a very enjoyable stay and if we go to Ely again the Royal Standard is where we will stay... Thankyou Mike to you and your Staff. John and Jo....

The location is great - right in the center where all the restaurants and pubs are, close to the Ely cathedral. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and sufficiently spacious, and there were all the expected amenities.

Breakfast was excellent, all staff were lovely. Nice comfy bed. Excellent location for town.

Lovely old building, tastefully modernised but retaining unique features like the old bread oven near the bar. Very friendly and helpful staff, quickly changed our bed arrangement on arrival. The full English breakfast was the best ever, with home made spicy black pudding to die for 😉
